Chicago’s Police Supt. Wants to Replace Crown Vics with SUVs

If Chicago’s top cop Jody Weis manages to get his way, windy city drivers might have to get used to watching out for Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs instead of the current Ford Crown Victoria squad cars. Weis made the proposition during a Chicago Crime Commission luncheon held in his honor on Wednesday (March 26, 2008) in answer to a question made about how he might help patrol officers on the street.

According to Weis, the current fleet of Crown Victoria squad cars is in bad shape and should be replaced with a sport-utility vehicle that makes more sense in Chicago's rugged winters. However, Weis did admit that this is an expensive idea and executing it would be difficult because of the city's budget crunch.
